Disaster DIY Make it Better
A New Home Channel Series that Promises to Add More Than Just Colour

Anyone who has opted for and taken the ‘do it yourself’ route to home maintenance projects will appreciate the new season of Disaster DIY which premiered on 14 February 2012 on DStv’s Home Channel, proudly sponsored by Prominent Paints.  Each of the 13 informative episodes tackles one disastrous project with episodes that include ‘kitchen crash’, ‘basement bedlam’, ‘the lacklustre laundry room’, ‘the beginner bathroom’, ‘beastly backyards’ and many more.  Well-loved Canadian contractor Bryan Baeumler wears the helmet and aims to inspire and entertain both troubled homeowners and viewers alike.  The show concludes with ‘Make It Better with Prominent Paints’ - an eight minute segment of locally shot content that relates to the programme.

A call for entries went out last year inviting South Africans to share their DIY disasters with the country.  Entries poured in from all corners of SA of which the top 13 were selected; winning entrants each received a paint renovation to the value of R20, 000.00 from Prominent Paints.

Disaster DIY and ‘Make It Better’ are sponsored by Prominent Paints, a leading manufacturer of premium quality decorative paints, which aims to add more than just colour to a make-over. Prominent Paints Channel Marketing Manager, Tyrone Shuttleworth, said, “We are not in the business of selling paint, we are in the business of providing inspiration.  Because we believe that there is so much more to paint than colour, sponsoring Disaster DIY was an obvious choice.  Through it we have been able to offer a sensory experience to those involved and help bring their ideas to life.”

To coincide with the start of ‘Make it Better’, Prominent Paints appointed human.kind advertising agency to launch a campaign titled ‘More than just colour’.  The campaign speaks to the many other characteristics of this leading paint brand, including but not limited to eco-friendly, durability low odour and coverage.  It is also supported across the print media with ads running in titles such as You, Huisgenoot, Garden & Home, Elle Decoration, Sarie Woon, House & Garden, Drum, Easy DIY and a variety of trade titles.

Disaster DIY, Season One utilises the following time slots on The Home Channel, DStv’s channel 182:
o    Tuesdays @ 19h30
o    Wednesdays @ 22h00
o    Fridays @ 15h30
o    Saturdays @ 14h30 & 23h30
o    Sundays @ 09h30 & 18h30

Viewers can expect to come under the hammer learning some tough lessons from the experts as they soon get their disastrous renovations back on track.

“We’re counting on viewers being inspired by the programme and wanting to make improvements to their own personal spaces too.  We’re encouraging them to visit their closest Prominent Paints stockist where we’ll help them come up with ideas and offer advice to activate and implement them,” concluded Shuttleworth.
