Digital convergence specialist NXT\ Digital Innovation has been appointed by Gautrain to implement and manage a bulk SMS platform that will enable Gautrain to send SMS alerts to customers using its train and bus services.
The SMS platform includes a new innovative feature known as the NXT\ One To Many service that will allow Gautrain to type alerts messages on a cellphone and send SMSes to its entire subscription base at the press of a button, allowing customer updates in real time and on the move.
Wayne Levine, managing director of NXT\ Digital Innovation with a 15-year track record in the technology, online and digital industry, says the project implementation commenced on 25 October and that the SMS service will continue indefinitely.
“We have a reputation for our ability to build unique digital experiences. Gautrain customers will be able to subscribe to the alerts service simply by SMSing ‘Alerts’ or ‘Gautrain’ to the shortcode 32693. This process enters the customers into a database that Gautrain will send their Alerts messages to.”
Levine adds that more than 7 000 people have already signed up to receive Gautrain SMS Alerts. “The feedback Gautrain has received from users of the service is highly positive with many SMSing thanks and congratulations for keeping them informed of developments and details of alternatives when there are delays caused by power failures or cable theft.
“The system will also offer Gautrain a highly cost-effective means of marketing to its user base travelling between Pretoria, Johannesburg and OR Tambo International Airport, keeping them informed of new options and developments.”
As an enabler of brands across all digital and mobile channels, Levine says NXT\ is able to combine clients’ mobile, digital and social media strategies in a single view. “From a platform of sophisticated technology, we are able to ensure that our clients have access to powerful, real-time reporting and intelligence.”
Users of the rapid rail service across all walks of life have complimented Gautrain on its implementation of the SMS Alerts service. A commuter SMSed Gautrain with the following comment: “Thank you Gautrain for the SMSes today, it was brilliant waking up this morning and knowing what to expect and the updates allowed me to plan my day accordingly. Good work, keep it up!”
Yet another commuter SMSed the following: “I’d just like to say thanks and congrats on handling the situation this morning much better than last week. You kept us informed and made other arrangements for those being affected. We understand things go wrong, but keeping us informed and giving us alternatives is the service we like to receive and ultimately expect from Gautrain. Thanks again.”
A third commuter summed it up succinctly: “Big thumbs up to the Gautrain staff and management team. You guys managed today’s power failure in Rosebank perfectly. Keep it up and well done.”
There is no doubt that with the new NXT\ real time reporting system in place, people on the move with Gautrain can remain mobile!
