Turner Scoops Two Awards

Turner Broadcasting System Europe celebrated a double success after triumphing in two prestigious categories at the British Academy Children’s Awards, held in London on Sunday, 27 November.

The Amazing World of Gumball, the newly-launched children’s animation series produced in the UK by Turner’s European division, carried off - at its first attempt - the awards for both Best Animation and Best Writer.

Gumball features the comic adventures of an enthusiastic but somewhat accident-prone blue cat, who faces the trials and tribulations of everyday life with his rather unusual family and friends.

“Gumball is famous for his positive energy – and he certainly worked his magic for us last night!” says Turner EMEA’s chief content officer Michael Carrington. “This is fabulous news and a fitting tribute to the talent, motivation and sheer hard work of our head of original series Daniel Lennard, creator Ben Bocquelet and the whole Gumball production team.”

This is the first time that Turner has been honoured at the Children’s BAFTAs in a programming category. Previously, the company was recognised for its expertise in the interactive entertainment sphere, winning an award for its UK Cartoon Network website in 2000.

The winning citations in full:

Best Animation: The Amazing World Of Gumball
Ben Bocquelet, Mic Graves, Joanna Beresford
Cartoon Network Europe in association with Dandelion Studios, Boulder Media & Studio Soi/Cartoon Network UK

Best Writer: James Lamont and Jon Foster

In addition, Turner also received two nominations in the International category for Regular Show and Adventure Time and two nominations in the BAFTA Kids’ Vote for Regular Show and
